A basket weave can be done using any number of different techniques. Most cultures have their own way of weaving together a basket, although there are many similarities as well. Each style of weaving creates its own unique character.
Coiling is a common basket weave technique. This method is done much like one would coil up a hose or rope, and thus its name. This technique is normally done with naturally occurring grasses, which are twisted together and then coiled into the desired shape.
Another common basket weave is called “splint weaving”. This method uses flat materials such as reed and/or cane. This is one of the most common methods of basket weaving and is what most people think of when they think of a “basket”.
